Homestaging may be the art of transforming your living space to fetch a higher price on the resale or rental market, but there is no reason not to pull it
off 365 days a year.
Cultivating a stylish home requires well-curated tweaks every few months. Bespoke interior designer and stylist Priscilla Tan (@styledbypt) highlights three hot home trends that will be all the rage by end of
the year.
What: A juxtaposition of colours, patterns and print in one space.
Ideal space: A playroom, lounge room or nursery.
Tip: To be the epitome of boho chic, go for print on print. The instant mix of prints and patterns adds much energy to the space. The effect is different from how a piece of statement furniture would influence the look and feel of the space.
Plus point: Choose your hue and anchor the colour palette for the rest of the prints on it. Take your cue from either the wallpaper or the rug, and make sure other pieces of the furniture and decor have similar tones for a cohesive look.
What: Also known as fish scale or fan tiles. These half-moon-shaped tiles are usually glazed for a shiny finish.
Ideal space: Bathrooms or a special feature wall.
Tip: A big Pinterest trend, such tiles have recently been available at the likes of An Huat Trading and Hafary. They add a playful touch to a space.
Plus point: To replicate half-painted walls, mix two colours of the same scallop tiles for the same effect.
What: Consider natural materials such as rattan and wicker in your choice of home furnishings for an outdoorsy feel.
Ideal space: Balconies, bathrooms or cosy corners in living rooms.
Tip: Mixing textures can instantly up your décor game. Play with macramé from cushions to wall hangings, or hunt down rattan swings or mirrors.
Plus point: Seek balance; avoid over decorating with too many rattan pieces in one space. Ideally, go for two in natural materials and three in a fabric or a print, so your home does not end up looking like a rattan furniture shop.
