IN: Larger tiles (800mm x 800mm, 1200mm x 1200mm) in various finishes like marble. These are desirable for larger rooms or halls, but would look out of proportion in smaller homes or rooms. The space will also look better with less grout lines.
OUT: Laminated flooring, which tends to expand and warp in our humid climate, requiring meticulous maintenance.
IN: Lighter colours such as Barley White or light pastel shades which give an illusion of space and coolness.
OUT: Strong colours such as fuchsia and seafoam green which can be overpowering when used primarily in a room.
IN: Stucco treatment on walls — think textures, faux wood, finishes or metallic marble.
OUT: Traditional textural rock stone finishes, which tend to gather dust over time and require additional maintenance.
IN: Trendy yet timeless classics such as the PH series by Poul Henningsen or melt light by Tom Dixon which are both organic and intriguing.
OUT: Intricate details with a Victorian or Baroque flair will only appeal to a smaller niche group.
